Geomatics - Topographic Survey for SSE in Chonais
Star Net Geomatics was commissioned by Scottish & Southern Energy (as part of our Framework Agreement) to carry out a topographic survey at a proposed hydro electric scheme in the hills above Strathcarron.
The contract required topographic survey of the proposed power station location at a lower level in the valley, level survey along the proposed pipeline route and a full topographic survey of the upper valley. The survey was carried out using GPS real-time kinematic methods in the upper valley and traditional total station survey at the proposed power station.
The survey was scheduled to take place in February but was postponed a number of times due to severe weather. The survey was eventually completed within 8 days on site. We used one of our Mitsubishi 4x4 vehicles to help access the upper area.
The survey was completed within our client’s timescale and to his satisfaction. Deliverables were 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings, paper plots and digital photography. The client also required some volumetric analysis to calculate the potential capacity of the upper valley. The calculations were made for various scenarios and presented in excel format with 3D flythroughs showing the topography and the inundated areas
